Beaches

There is a pebble beach next to the harbour in Kalkan, but there are also other options. A 15 minute taxi or dolmus ride will take you to Patara beach, 18 kilometres of golden sand and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, as voted in a Sunday Times survey.

Patara beach is an area of outstanding natural beauty and is also a protected conservation area. At certain times of the year it is a nesting site for the local Loggerhead turtles. There is an entrance fee of around £5, but this lasts for 1 week. It is possible to hire sun beds and parasols and there are toilets and a small cafe available. It is best to visit Patara beach when it is not too windy.

A little closer to Kalkan, on the road to Kas, you will find Kaputas beach. This is a small but stunning beach at the foot of a ravine, occassionally visited by gulets and day boats.

There are also a number of beach clubs available around Kalkan.

These clubs are rock gardens cut into the hillside and offer relaxing sunbathing and swimming in the warm turquoise sea. Some of them offer water-sports such as snorkelling, windsurfing, sailing and water ski-ing. They charge a fee of around £3.00 per day per person for the use of sun beds and parasols. The Kalamar beach club will provide a car to pick you up and return you to the villa.
